BACKGROUND
The idea for this group was conceived during the 2012 Presidential Election cycle. While the concept of convening a public discussion among people from various ideological backgrounds is not novel -- in reality, it's easier said than done.

During the 2012 cycle, there was a sense that many voters wanted a platform to convene and discuss the important issues of the day. Moreover, many were frustrated with the "mainstream" media outlet's fixation on the mere "horse-race" aspect of the election coverage, while the substantive issues were ignored or under-reported.

In the age of political division, brought on by the hyper-partisanship and gridlock, we strive to take a stark departure; to that end we convene for a public discourse, in a forum, open to all, regardless of one's political viewpoints. Openly discussing politics -- especially the controversial, "hot-button" issues -- shouldn't be a "taboo." Rather, it should be fostered and encouraged, to enhance critical thinking, which is essential to participatory democracy.

WHO WE ARE
We are a nonpartisan, all-inclusive discussion group that welcomes all New Yorkers to gather and exchange their passionate views on political issues and public policy matters, notwithstanding one's political ideologies or partisan leanings.

ORGANIZATIONAL STATUS
The NYC Political Forum, Inc. is incorporated under the laws of the State of New York as a Not-For-Profit organization. Our 501(c)(3) status is currently pending.

WHAT WE DO
Our regular monthly meetup usually include a discussion of the following:
• Local stories or events in NYC and the greater metropolitan area.
• Domestic politics and public policies of national significance.
• International relations and foreign affairs.

For our side events, we conduct in-depth discussions of the following: political philosophies and theories; historical subject matters; geopolitical case studies; the Constitution and court decisions; and other public policy matters.
